Christopher Gray is something of an enigma. Once a calm, unremarkable man, he served as executive officer of the UFS Olympia, when a Kelvan siege trapped that ship in the Andromeda galaxy in 344 CE, requiring rescue by the UFS Arcadia. Upon returning to Galaxy Alpha in 346, Gray was promoted to captaincy of the Arcadia and his behavior abruptly changed. He began using his middle name, Dominic (previously going by Chris or Christopher), and displayed a colorful, extroverted personality for which he was unknown.

"The Long Journey Back" implies that Gray may not be the former Olympia first officer, but either Alexander Steel or Kneuel Toskey in disguise. "Identifiable Suspicions" suggests that he might be Corician in birth. According to "Detached", he was/is a man named "Gary", a would-be astronaut in -50 ce who programmed a virtual reality training environment for future space travelers, patterned upon the world of Star Trek: Arcadia.

As Olympia XO, Gray had a romantic relationship with Lily Ross on Galindra V following the Khitomer discord. He also encountered Remans, compelling a Reman attempt to capture him in late 346 CE which caused his apparent death. Gray's status and the truth of his identity remains to be revealed.
