The young, tender blonde brushed her thick hair from her face with a tender smile as she answered a question from an alien after her show. The being had been captivated with Nina's holographic symposium featuring little Rosie. Rosie was a holographic life form who resembled a rose but was animated like a ferret who now sat on her hand, rosebud head gazed up at the alien in curiosity.
"Nina," called a young human male. He narrowly subdued a sneer at the alien.
"Sir, would you excuse us?" Nina pleaded, looking slightly green at the young man's rudeness.
The pair moved toward a curtain. "What is it you require, Mr. Dunson." Nina allowed Rosie to perch on her shoulder.
"You're aware my aunt is out of prison?"
"Yes. I've been aware for some time," Nina replied evenly.
"You aren't with her?" Scott accused.
"We've nothing in common. I don't share her racist views. She's not Humanist. She wants to eliminate non-humans and non-Christian humans. Including intelligent and semi-intelligent holograms," Nina said. "What she did to my sisters prevents a relationship. I'm sorry."
"Where were you when she was in prison?" Scott asked.
"That's a long story. Have you heard of the Arcadia?" Nina asked. "It disappeared for twenty years. I was with it. I wasn't around. But nonetheless, I hold firm on my views."
"I gotta go; my ship's waiting," Scott said sullenly. "Apparently, they want more humans out and about, like they have lots of us to toss.... And I got on the wrong side of some frickin' alien who thinks I need to..."
"Alright, I'm sorry things turned out that way for you. Good-bye," Nina said, and promptly disappeared.
Scott muttered something unfriendly about holotechnology.
The ship was big. That was the first thing Scott Dunson noticed about it. It was full of holodecks. His quarters had holotech. Oh that was boss for holo-gaming! Oh man! This job wasn't gonna be dog-crap after all!
Scott emerged from his room after a nap and ran into Nina. "What?" he asked.
"What are you doing here?" Nina asked.
"This is my ship. I'm apparently a waiter," Scott began.
"I'm the holographic specialist of this ship." Nina grinned.
"And your, um... plant?" Scott asked.
"She lives with me." Nina giggled.
"How come I saw you on the planet if you live on the ship and whatever..." Scott asked, bewildered.
"We're still on circuit." Nina shrugged. "A holographic version of Rosie and I can go just about anywhere... and do anything. We're here in the holodeck, yet there too."
"That's spaced...."
"You'd better get to work Scott...."
