Ria had been in the middle of her discussion with the duty officer... when suddenly, mice appeared. Dozens, at least. Ria herself never minded them, and had been around much worse in her various travels. Duty officer Zakova, however... was in the midst of a near-panic attack.
And then... as if the whole episode couldn't get any stranger... she actually heard the mouse talk. Even stranger than that... the mouse claimed to be a lieutenant commander with Starfleet. It was official. Ria Stavros had seen everything.
First things first. This corridor was becoming a hotbed of mass hysteria... and nothing good could come of it.
Raising her hands, Ria said, "All right. Everyone, just calm down." Glancing to the mouse on her shoulder, she said, "Sir... my name is Ria Stavros. I'm the ship's new diplomatic officer, and although my dress may not reflect it, I'm a lieutenant with Starfleet as well. I'm sure duty officer Zakova meant no disrespect. May I ask if you have been assigned to the Arcadia as well?" It wouldn't hurt for someone to go find the captain, either, Ria thought. She decided to see what the mouse thought of the idea. "With your permission, sir... could we contact the ship's captain?"
