IC/OOC

IC
"IC" is an abbreviation for "in character" (or, less frequently, "in[side of] content"), used to demarcate character perspective from author perspective ("OOC" = out of character). The difference between IC & OOC is analogous to the format/practice of switching between "on" and "off".
OOC
"Out-of-character" (abbreviated OOC) refers to a mode wherein writers convey information directly rather than through characters ("stepping out of character"). The difference between IC (in character) & OOC is analogous to the format/practice of switching between "on" and "off". OOC content may be inserted into a post to explain or deliver more information, usually at the beginning and/or end of the post, offsetting in-character content.
With Arcadia's technique of "breaking the fourth wall", the line between "in-character" and out-of-character often blurs. (See fourth wall.)
The Arc_OOC group[1] exists for purely out-of-character discussions which are not part of the storyline.
