What were the odds, that not one, but two chiefs of security could be brought down – in a row – by the same, what-started-as-an-innocuous allergic reaction, turned-disease?  Well, lightning had struck twice this day, and it could only have happened on the Arcadia.  In the very hour that the Quantum-class starship swept towards Altair IV, to beam off an ailing Alec Tueri (Because of the contagious nature of the disease and the unusual, mutated virus strain which caused it, Starfleet Medical had, after conferring with Brisk, recommended total quarantine of affected subjects – and Altair had the best facility for treating them.), Jackson West came down with a sudden illness, reported to sickbay and found it was the same exact illness – borne of Tueri's allergic reaction to the food or the squirrels of Starbase 138 (no one was sure, yet, which).
Tabatha Brisk had warned it could be contagious.  Fearing a ship-wide epidemic, she immediately committed internal sensors, the full array, to tracking down this bioagent before it could spread to anyone else – if it hadn't already.
Turned out to be a simple germ transmission.  Tueri had sneezed on his console, and Jackson touched it.  Voila, two downed security chiefs.  Of course, they disinfected the area promptly and contained the culprit.  Couldn't have the next department chief of security, whoever got rotated, falling victim.  If it kept up, they'd run out of security chiefs – not to mention susceptible others.
Fifteen minutes after Jackson reported ill, Tabatha Brisk had contained the disaster before it struck, and reported as such to the captain.  Five minutes after that, Arcadia swung out of warp, impulse-circling Altair, beamed the affected men off, getting a few supplies and crew-members in return.  Then they were off again, to their impending rendezvous: Showdown with the Nexus.
