(Redirected from Nea Opsis)
Nea Opsis, like Arcadia, reinterprets and redefines the Star Trek universe, attempting to offer something new and original, instead of rehashing the same old stories. Year 8's fourth wall technique continues. Nea Opsis expands & dramatizes this through in-universe plot and character development, while exploring modern issues. No longer focused upon the UFS Arcadia, Nea Opsis covers a broader canvas with multiple characters across many worlds, introducing and reintroducing new and old characters. Posts should have a Strange New Worlds-style anthology/vignette format, with ongoing plot lines. "Detached" and "The Line: Trekworld" help to set the tone of this approach.[1]
thematic content
Themes of Nea Opsis:
- Humanity is not perfect. Gene Roddenberry's vision was a pipe dream.
- "Star Trek" is an entertainment franchise, upon which the entire universe was built (including the galaxy of the Federation).
- Characters represent writers, in voice, views, experience & attitude. While they (and we) interact in the Trek setting, they (and we) realize that their universe is a reflection (Trekworld) of our real world. Aliens, time travel, warp drive, alternate universes, Starfleet, the Federation — All are figments of imagination.
- Life's hard truths and themes cannot be ignored. War, corruption and evil pervade our world. We face dark times, which can't be ignored in favor of childish play. Story content should mean something to participants & potential readers, rather than being pure escapist fantasy.[2]
- ^ This is not a new continuity; rather, expansion/continuance of the previous Arcadia setting.
- ^ Occasionally, however, escapist fantasy is fun & necessary for one's mental health, and may be offered in doses.
