Ibrahim Nazir was at times curious, and this time curiosity got the best of him. He had heard the edict, No unauthorized viewing of Earth-based transmissions. Apparently a few of the crew had "seen" themselves and it had upset them. Of course Commander Wayne clamped down on that information like it was the closest guarded secret in the known universe, whichever one that may be.
Ibrahim was assigned to restock sickbay and clean up; a rather mundane task but a necessary one. Sickbay could at times become the known center of the universe. There had been a Borg slaughter here and Ibrahim had been in the thick of it, so to speak.
Doctor Starr had gone to the planet's surface, and Doctor Brisk had returned to her quarters. Nurse Betty was the clinical charge nurse for the evening and had tucked himself away in some corner of sickbay counting meds. Entering the medical officer's office, he noticed that Doctor Brisk had left her LCARS terminal on.
"Such a waste of power... we are ordered to conserve power and the officers become lax... well then," he muttered to himself, reaching to turn off the viewer when he slightly bumped the table; the screen saver switched off and images of an Earth-based transmission appeared.
"What's this... no I should not look...." But curiosity killed the cat. Sitting down and looking around the room for Nurse Betty, Ibrahim was nervous. "I could get into very deep trouble here buster," he said aloud, no one hearing but the empty biobeds. Switching through various screens he landed on something that looked familiar. "Allah be praised, I have found a link to Deep Space Nine! I recognize it!" Nazir was about to call the bridge when his eyes bulged wide open.
With his face almost to the screen he looked at the image; the image was him. But it was not him. This image was that of an officer, a doctor.
Leaning back in the chair, Ibrahim Nazir attempted to process the images he saw. It was him, but not him. He was about to shut off the LCARS terminal, not to tell a soul about his discovery when he saw another image. "He" was with a Trill woman, in bed!
"Oh the indignity of it all!" he thought aloud, looking again for Nurse Betty. Something as private and intimate as this, being broadcast across all of known space for all to view. Nazir was deeply religious and this was a private moment shared only between husband and wife, and to view such matters indecent. Worst of all, it was him! What would people say?
But Ibrahim was also intrigued. Who was this Trill woman? Was the Prophet Muhammed sending him a message? Were there better things in store for him than to simply be a medtech and a crewman? He would have to pray on this. Nazir tapped a few buttons and recorded the images to a private file before shutting off the computer. This would be for his private viewing only. He would use this as a sign to search for this woman, his partner, to become his wife.
