Remus was a binary satellite of the planet Romulus. When the original Romulans from Vulcan colonized the Romulus system, they enslaved and forced Reman inhabitants to mine Remus' large amounts of natural dilithium. Shinzon led a bid for independence in 316 CE (Nemesis).

It remains unrevealed how or if Remus avoided the supernova which destroyed Romulus in 324 (Star Trek (2009)). The Remans took advantage of the catastrophic blow to Romulus and expanded their own power ("Detached").

Remans

Vkruk, Reman viceroy (316 CE)
The Remans descended from a racial group displaced by the early Romulan colonization. (They may or may not have been native to the system.) Over the centuries, the inhabitants of Remus lost their racial identity through infusion of Romulan DNA via genetic engineering, taking on a pseudo-Romulan appearance. Certain Remans had telepathic ability, either as a result of this engineering or precipitating it.

Remans served Romulus as soldiers since at least 91 CE (Enterprise:  "United", "The Aenar"). Remans fought in the Dominion War (Nemesis). A shapeshifting agent who may have been Reman time-traveled to Earth and helped to create the Roman Empire (see Romulus and Remus).

Remans encountered and killed members of an Arcadia away team in late 346 ("Detached").
