Romulus and Remus, purported founders of Earth's ancient Rome, were regarded as legendary, mostly mythical, figures throughout Earth's history.

In actuality, Remus (real name unknown) was a shapeshifting (possibly Reman) agent of Romulus, sent back in time to sabotage Rome's rise to power and its cultural impact on human civilization. In Earth's past, he found and nurtured a human infant whom he named Romulus. Rebelling against the Romulan establishment which kept Remans enslaved, he raised Romulus to fulfill the role history had assigned, assuming the mantle (and name) of Remus himself. Thus, "Romulus" and "Remus", the names of the twin Romulan homeworlds (as rendered via universal translator), influenced Earth civilization, and vice versa.
