Squaring Away

Tabatha smiled as she took the medical PADD from Amanda.  "Thanks.  You're right.  It always seems like medical personnel are the worst patients."

Amanda returned the smile with a little laugh.  "Don't I know it.  The CMO on the Rock Island got sick once.  To hear him tell it, we should have been making funeral arrangements."

Tabatha nodded.  "Well... let's get you acquainted with sickbay."  As the two began their tour of the room, she said, "I imagine most of this will look pretty familiar.  Starfleet does like to keep sickbays all the same."

"Makes it easier for new recruits to fit in.  They don't have to spend as much time figuring out where everything on the new ship is."

"Exactly."  She continued looking over Amanda's file.  "You were wounded while serving on the Excaliber.  Serious injury?"

Amanda shook her head.  "Type two phaser burn.  Partial tearing of the subscapularis, minor neurological damage.  I was right as rain before the day was out."

"I don't think I've ever heard someone refer to a T2 phaser burn as unserious."

"If the shooter had been a better shot, I probably wouldn't be having this conversation with you now.  In my opinion, that makes it somewhat less serious.  I'll take the burn over someone paying my mum a visit any day of the week and twice on Thursdays."

Tabatha nodded.  "Sound reasoning."  She glanced around.  "I think that about covers the tour.  When is your first official duty shift supposed to begin?"

"Tomorrow morning.  But I can start sooner, if you'd like."

"You can start now if you want."

"I'm your girl, ma'am." 

"All right then.  Welcome to the Arcadia, Lieutenant."  Tabatha extended her hand, which Amanda took in a warm shake.
