Romulus, 316 CE

Romulus was the capital planet of the Romulan nation, considered to be the Romulan homeworld.

Romulan history began in the Surak era, when Vulcans resisted Surak's pro-logic philosophy, settling Romulus after an historic defeat by Surak's followers at Vashak'ti, approximately 2,000 years before the Federation.  The colonization of Romulus displaced previous residents, whose descendants became Remans.  Over time, descendants of the original Romulans altered their physiology through genetic engineering, acquiring the Common Era appearance[1].

Despite the social schism which separated them, Romulus was a colony of Vulcan intentions.  Romulans secretly interacted with Vulcans for centuries, and on a more clandestine level with Earth.  Romulan and Vulcan operatives, working behind the scenes, hampered 1st century affairs which created the United Federation of Planets[2].

destroyed by supernova, 324

Jordan Rampart's Cadre traveled to Romulus in 322 CE.

Romulus served as the seat of the Romulan Star Empire and, for a brief period, the Romulan Republic.  Both the Republic and the second Star Empire vied for control of Romulus due to its symbolic stature.  After a supernova destroyed Romulus in 324 (Star Trek (2009)), survivors renamed another planet in their possession as "Romulus", which fulfilled the same role.

  1. ^ Evidenced by Romulans with "V-ridged" foreheads in Enterprise, TNG, DS9 and VoyagerTOS and Star Trek (2009) portrayed smooth-headed Romulans, an appearance Chromus shared, though possibly because he was half-Vulcan.
  2. ^ Several Arc posts suggest that Vulcan-Romulan interference intentionally manipulated the UFP's creation, in order to extend Vulcan power and influence.
