history
Arcadia, originally designated USS Arcadia, began construction in 312 CE, one of many ships replacing Starfleet vessels destroyed in the Dominion War. Ostensibly named after a previous USS Arcadia, this new Arcadia, like its early sister ships, shared its name with one of the "Greek" colonies (named after regions of Earth's ancient Greece) near what was then the Federation-Cardassian Demilitarized Zone. This symbolic affiliation was hoped to foster continued growth, expansion and advancement, despite the Dominion War's devastating and debilitating effects, which hampered colonization and exploration programs.
Construction dragged for several months until 313 CE, when USS Voyager slipstream data compelled Starfleet to engineer a stable quantum slipstream drive. Rather than convert existing ships into QSD testbeds, Arcadia's design batch was selected to test the technology, with Arcadia the first. (Other ships which would become the Quantum Fleet were not yet built at the time.) Under the auspice of "Project: Purple Dog", these ships integrated, from the keel up, the latest advances and understanding in starship technology and subspace physics, including interim slipstream studies. Arcadia was commissioned in 314 CE, the first ship designated "UFS" (United Federation Starship, reflecting the UFP's united interests). An insufficient slip-drive energy source prevented official launch until the following year (stardate 55853.1), which the USS Antietam solved by obtaining benamite, via wormhole, from the Delta Quadrant.
Arcadia's first mission was to intercept a Kelvan incursion from the Andromeda galaxy, leading to others involving Grazellius, the Borg transformation, the mirror universe, M87 and Meloc II[1]. Captain Stephen April commanded the ship from the date of its commission until 319, when his daughter Neria briefly succeeded him. A Nexus time trip to 344 CE prompted Arcadia's decommissioning in 319, but in 322 the ship relaunched with most of Arcadia's previous crew. Arcadia played a key role in the Cirean transclusion and conducted missions to diverse locales such as Memiklon, Occlua and the Wenga system.
temporal jump
In 324, a temporal loop effect of the mission five years earlier forced Arcadia's relocation to 344, where it continued service. Later that year, Topaz assumed command and took Arcadia to Andromeda to assist the UFS Olympia, returning to Galaxy Alpha in 346, at which point Dominic Gray became captain.
With the galaxy's political reorganization by 347, Arcadia was redesignated "USS" = United Systems Ship, operating for the Arcadian League.
