What Just Happened?

As Aranittara left the room, the remainder of the science department stood around in confusion.

"Wow that is a lot of freedom. Glad I'm on this ship."

"What species is she?"

"Any ideas on projects?"

"She is an ensign too. Why is she the chief?"

"Look at her public file. She invented quantum expitaxy. That's one of the biggest scientific achievements since quantum slipstream and subspace transporters. Oh and she's a Tilit."

"Well then perhaps it's an honor to serve under her."

"Again, any ideas for projects?"

"What about improving the holodecks; make the whole ship into one big holodeck. I heard about this technology called isomorphic projection that allows really complex telepresence. It was in the Voyager mission reports."

"Or perhaps a project on zero-point energy."

"Her project seems interesting."

"What about implementing her discovery of epitaxy on board."

"Wow," the chief said, watching the conversation of the junior science officers. "Maybe I should follow suit."

"When I worked on my homeworld it was implemented in most professions. It dramatically increased productivity and made for a golden age of scientific discovery."

"Thanks; maybe we can have our staff collaborate on these projects, since most of your staff's ideas seem like they'll need engineering experience."
