Zytmn Chromus, commonly known as "Chromus", was a Romulan ambassador assigned to the UFS Arcadia in 317 CE as a political observer. A former member of the Tal Shiar, he played a role in a Romulan attack on Khalindarian leader Ankena, designed to prevent Khalindar from joining the Federation. The mission's failure branded Chromus an outcast, for which he blamed Stephen April.

In 323, Chromus returned to the Arcadia as a political exile, extirpated from the Romulan Republic, and resumed his old position. Though ostensibly representing Romulan interests, the assignment was meaningless. A hardliner loyal to the Romulan Star Empire, Chromus despised Romulus' emerging democracy; frustrated, he attacked Arcadia diplomatic officer Alex Crimson, hoping to provoke a Federation-Romulan confrontation. This prompted April to order an L-21 procedure, which chief medical officer Tabatha Brisk refused to carry out. Chromus was subsequently removed from Arcadia before the ship's 324 time jump to 344; disgraced by his status, he committed suicide.

Stephen April later discovered, through Strat, that Chromus was the half-Vulcan child of T'Urla, April's Starfleet mentor. Through a mind meld with her son, T'Urla/Strat acquired Chromus' hunger for revenge, driving her to telepathically rape April in 344, only to learn that her victim was a clone.[1]

Chromus was visually represented by actor Arnold Vosloo.
